Virgin failed

January 6, 2011 2:10pm

So after nine katrillion months of tears and complete and utter woe I finally decided that it was about time that I flung the ball and chain that is Virgin Broadband into the deep dark ocean. Setting myself free from pointless charges for an internet service that scarcely worked since, ‘road-works,’ and not since Virgin stopped caring at all about their customers. This is England 2010 and it seems that yes, a fully working and fast internet connection is sometimes a little too much to ask for.

But, despite cutting my losses and breaking out on my own all has not been great and good in my humble abode. In fact, it has actually been terrible. Bloody terrible. Not even joking or fooling around at all terrible. You see, I failed to secure a new internet provider and so have been stretching the very recesses of my retinas to focus on the screen of my handy Blackberry Bold in order to access the internet and let me tell you, its a right chore.

But, having discovered a nice internet cafe across the road I have set upon my quest of finding a new provider and I have subsequently decided to spread the journey over a few blogs for your benefit. So I can give you the lowdown on who is good and who is not so good. Armed only with a simple broadband comparison site, I aim to test out a new provider each month and keep you in the loop. I think it’s going to be a fun ride!

Twitter CEO to step down

October 4, 2010 6:00pm

According to twitter, current CEO Evan Williams will be stepping down from his current position to concentrate on product strategy. Williams declared the news himself via his Twitter Blog.
Williams has seen the rise of the ‘social networking’ site from humble beginnings and has helped in turning it into a globally recognised brand and rival to the likes of Facebook and Myspace.
We wish him all the best in his new position with Twitter and are sure he will continue with unrivalled success.

Spotify links with Windows Mobiles

October 4, 2010 6:00pm

Microsoft have jumped on the Spotify bandwagon after finally securing the licensing and compatibility of a special Spotify app for their range of Windows handsets.
The app which is available today [October 4] has reportedly been built from the ground up especially for the special Windows Phone 7 operating system. Allowing the famed software and over all media conglomerate to join the same spotify ranks of major rivals such as Apple and Google who both feaure the app on their own handsets.
Good news in some ways that Spotify is growing and spreading its commercial wings but at the same time one does wonder if the software is becoming close to market saturation. It doesn’t really strike me as something that can plausibly develop much further as a music only software, unless maybe they too in the near future bring out a handset or better, a spotify for film and tv that crosses multiple nations. I wonder....

How to buy a laptop

October 4, 2010 6:00pm

1. If all you want is internet access and word then you really don’t need to spend over £300. Ignore the salesperson.
2. Check out lesser known brands like Acer and Asus, they are just as good as the big names like HP and Sony and far easier on your wallet.
3. Test before you buy. Have a play with the keyboard, mouse pad, screen. Check it is up to scratch.
4. Get a laptop that already has software included or haggle with the salesperson to throw it in. If you don’t you could be looking to spend more than a £100 on top of the laptop asking price just to get it up to standard.
